Is your training the best for lowering blood glucose?

For diabetics, exercise is as important for lowering glucose as is daily insulin delivery.

For diabetics, exercise is as important for lowering glucose as insulin delivery. Both activities allow them to metabolize glucose in the blood in similar proportions. Next, I will tell you about some exercises that offer greater advantages than others. A study from the University of Turku in Finland revealed that high-intensity interval training increases muscle glucose metabolism and insulin sensitivity in patients with type 2 diabetes.

What do the exercises consist of?

The main idea is to carry out high intensity exercise sessions, but short duration, followed by a recovery period. For example, you can exercise in 30-second sessions at maximum intensity and take a couple of minutes to recover. During the study, continuous training of moderate intensity was also tested and glucose metabolism also improved; However, the moderate training group only managed to improve half as much as those in the high intensity training group.

Advantages of doing these exercises

Among the advantages that I have found to implement this type of training with my patients is the time they have to exercise. That is, if you have little time to exercise, I suggest high intensity workouts; For those who have enough time to do physical activities, I recommend the traditional and moderate intensity program. In both cases, my patients are happy because they managed to integrate exercise into their daily lives and they are proud of it. Just like me for them!
