The best part about this sesame chicken recipe is that you can make it in just one pot! I love meals like this, they make everything easier to cook at night. It only leaves you with a container to clean. We start by browning the chicken with sesame oil. This creates these little toasted bits at the bottom of the pan. In classical French cuisine, this is called fond, which roughly translates to ** “base”. **These are like super concentrated flavor capsules. When you add water, the pieces dissolve to create the base of a tasty sauce.
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons sesame oil
- Half a kilo of boneless, skinless chicken breast, cut into 1-inch strips
- 1 carrot peeled and cut into thin strips
- 3 tablespoons low sodium soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons of honey
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper
- 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
- 1 clove of minced garlic
- 2 tablespoons sesame seeds
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1/4 cup sliced green onion
Instructions
- Heat the sesame oil over medium heat. Once hot, add the chicken and carrot. Cook until the chicken is cooked. Drain any excess.
- In a small bowl, combine all ingredients except sesame seeds and green onion. Blend until smooth and pour over the cooked chicken. Bring to a simmer and cook for 1 minute, cover the chicken. Add the sesame seeds.
- Take it off the heat and cover it with the onion. Serve over brown rice or quinoa.
