That sweet dream that we generally feel when we finish eating. We know that food is the main cause of this, however, we present some that we know exactly will make you nod.

  • Lettuce – Although we love it for being a fairly light option, this delicious vegetable actually has sedative properties. This thanks to a substance called lactucin.
  • Pasta – The amount of flour and sugar it contains gives us a good initial rush, but when it is digested, this turns into a drop in insulin which leaves us exhausted. Something similar happens to us after eating bread and desserts.
  • Humus – Made from chickpeas, it is very rich in tryptophan and B vitamins, such as folate and B-6, all of which can affect your energy levels.
  • Red meat – A good steak is always a delicious option, however, it can be very difficult to digest. When you try to do this, the body increases its blood flow, which will surely leave you exhausted for a while. The more measured the portion, the better you will feel throughout the day.
  • Salmon – It is a natural source of protein and lots of Omega-3 which makes it a very healthy option, but it is also full of vitamin B6 which is used to produce melatonin, a hormone that induces sleep. So now you know, if you’re going out to eat and have something important to do later, order slightly smaller portions or simply go to the next option.
