Working too much can cause arrhythmia

Researchers discovered that not only age, diabetes and alcohol consumption cause arrhythmia, but also long work hours.

Is there a link between atrial fibrillation or arrhythmia and the time we spend working? A study done in England shows that yes. Atrial fibrillation is a form of cardiac arrhythmia and is the most common in clinical practice. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that there are between 2.7 and 6.1 million people in the United States with this condition. And it is expected that, worldwide, the number of patients with arrhythmia will continue to rise. In general, the main causes that produced arrhythmia had already been identified. And they were diabetes, hypertension, high alcohol consumption and advanced age. But the Department of Epidemiology at University College London identified another important factor: Long working hours. Study that relates arrhythmia to exhausting work The study involved the participation of around 85,494 patients of different nationalities. They were followed for around 10 years. They were classified according to their working hours: Less than 35 hours per week, 35 to 40 hours, 41 to 48 hours, 49 to 54 hours and 55 or more hours worked per week. None of the participants had arrhythmia when the research began. By the time it was finished, it was concluded that those who work longer hours are about 40% more likely to be diagnosed with atrial fibrillation or arrhythmia. There are various positions regarding the limitations of the study. However, the results are maintained taking into account factors such as: age, sex, obesity, physical exercise, socioeconomic status, tobacco and alcohol consumption. So what is recommended, when s e can, is to try to relax a little after the office.
