New research confirms that shifting meal times earlier in the day can help you lose weight without cravings. It also reveals that weight loss from this type of craving-free eating program. It is probably due to reduced cravings and hunger hormones, rather than burning calories. * An article appearing in the journal Obesity describes a trial that shows how meal timing influences metabolism. The authors write that “Eating in tune with circadian rhythms by eating early in the day appears to reduce body weight and improve metabolic health.” However, they add that it is unclear what mechanisms could be causing “these weight loss effects.” Therefore, the new study is the “first randomized trial to determine how meal timing affects metabolism.” The researchers compared two groups of people who ate the same three meals a day for four days. But with different schedules: the early time-restricted feeding (eTRF) program and the control program. A total of 11 men and women completed the trial: 6 in the eTRF group and 5 in the control group. To be eligible for the trial, participants had to be in good health, between 25 and 45 years of age, and overweight.
Decreased cravings and hunger hormone
The eTRF group had breakfast at 8:00 a.m. and ate his last meal of the day at 2:00 p.m. They then fasted for about 18 hours before eating breakfast the next day. The control group also had breakfast at 8:00 a.m. but his last meal of the day was at 8:00 p.m. Therefore, they fasted for about 12 hours before eating breakfast the next day. * The authors compared the control program “to the median breakfast and dinner times of American adults.” On the fourth day, participants underwent a series of tests in a respiratory chamber to measure their metabolism.
