Is raw egg dangerous?
I found a few things that I want to share with you. Yes, raw egg is something that can be dangerous, but let's see why.
Frankly, I don’t like it raw, I wouldn’t change a good omelette for anything else. But I have met many people who do not eat the egg straight from the shell, but without cooking it directly in their milkshake or something like that. The reality is that I have not met anyone who has had anything bad happen to them doing that. But when I was digging a little into the topic, I found a few things that I want to share with you. Yes, raw egg is something that can be dangerous, but let’s see why.
Why it can be dangerous
- Salmonella . This bacteria can be in the eggs and we don’t even know it. It can be found in the peel (so choose the cleanest ones). Washing them doesn’t help as this could cause it to spread to the inside of the egg itself. The only thing we can do is cook it well to avoid infection.
- We always hear about the wonders of the egg white. It is not for nothing, it is very good, however, it also contains this protein called avidin, which when we eat it raw, prevents us from absorbing all the nutrients we are looking for from the egg white itself. And yes, you guessed it, we have to cook it to get what we want.
- And the last thing to consider is that the egg is a food that is very difficult to digest raw. Partly as seen in the previous point, the egg is a food that the body struggles to digest correctly. For these simple 3 reasons, your best option is to eat the egg cooked the way you like it best. Your health and that of your family comes first. If you’re looking to get the best out of eggs, remember that you don’t necessarily have to eat them raw to get them. It doesn’t have to mean something bad, but it’s not the safest thing.
