When the holidays arrive, many people forget about diets and healthy eating. Gains of 3 to 5 kilograms are common during festive or vacation times, therefore following some recommendations will help you maintain your good habits and not gain weight. Prefer low-fat foods. Ham or turkey breast, for example, or cooked potatoes (without butter) are a good option. Don’t neglect your exercise routine. One of the most effective ways to maintain weight during vacation is by burning excess accumulated calories. Plan a walk after the main meal, avoid using the vehicle for short trips, even take advantage of walking through shopping malls as part of your exercise. Eat without guilt. But eat well: review the options available to maintain a balanced diet, without leaving out vegetables, fruits, low-fat dressings, and slices of lean meats. Remember that small snacks will prevent the urge to binge at mealtime. Avoid alcohol. Drinking can paralyze your willpower, and add excess calories to your diet. Prefer lemonade water or a low-sugar cocktail at night. Be flexible. A couple of off-the-books meals aren’t going to ruin your diet. But doing your best to compensate with exercise and reducing calories returning from vacation will help you regain any excess you may have fallen into.
