How to age well?

Aging is inevitable, and while you can't control your age, you can find ways to keep your body and mind fit, like eating well...

Getting older is inevitable. While you can’t control your age, you can slow down aging with smart choices along the way. And the good news is that it’s never too late to start.

Here are some simple ways to keep your body and mind fit.

*1. Eat well

Small changes in your eating habits can reduce your risk of many of the diseases associated with aging. -You can consider losing a little weight. Decreasing body weight by 5% can reduce the risk of diabetes and improve the metabolic function of the liver. -It is better to avoid processed meat. -Add some blue foods to your diet (like blueberries) to lower blood pressure and suppress junk food cravings.

*2. Move more

Taking long walks will help your body age better than watching TV all day. Consider these tips for exercising as you age: -High-intensity exercise helps people of any age and fitness level become healthier. A typical high-intensity workout combines brief high-power anaerobic exercises with short rest periods and lasts less than 15 minutes, including a warm-up and cool-down. -Do some weight lifting. Lifting weights can help you keep muscle mass and bones stronger as you age. Strength training can also help prevent you from walking slower as you age. Focus on strengthening your calf and ankle muscles. -Exercise to look younger. Exercise not only helps keep the inside of your body healthy, but it also slows down the aging process.

*3. Think better

Aging well means taking care of your body and mind. Most of what we do to keep our bodies fit is also good for the brain. -Create art. Art can inspire an aging body and mind. Activities such as music, dance, painting, singing and writing poetry add meaning, joy and a vibrant sense of well-being to the lives of older people. -Practice yoga and meditate daily. Find your inner peace to strengthen thinking skills and avoid mental decline related to aging. -Work your brain. Playing memory games, crosswords, puzzles, sudoku or scrabble will keep your brain in good shape in a fun way.

4. Connect more

*Staying in touch with family and friends can keep you healthy longer and can add years to your life. -Socialize. Several studies show that having strong, happy relationships with family, friends, and community members is an important factor in good health and longevity.

5. Live well

Nothing can guarantee you a longer life, but there are some simple practices that will improve your chances of aging. -Stay away from the sun. Avoid excessive sun exposure to have younger skin. -Train yourself to maintain balance. Falls are the leading cause of injuries among people over 60.* -Travel. Go and explore the world while you can. Long or weekend trips or just a hike in the mountains. Enjoy every moment of your life. Stay young forever!
