Do you remember your patients’ faces? Do you remember their names? Could you describe the feeling of each of them when they are in your office, in front of you? What do you think your patient thinks of you? Or better yet, what do you think your patient feels towards you? Have they returned to your office? And if they have, why did they return? Do you remember that obese lady who came to your office looking for help? Did you ask her how she felt, what worried her, what mortified her, what excited her, what motivated her, what she dreamed about? Did your patient love you or did they just go with you looking for medical help and after getting the “prescription” of the moment they left and you never heard from them again? If this is you, perhaps one day you will count on the fingers of your hand the number of patients you have left, perhaps you will have enough consultations left to be able to make a living from your profession, but do not expect to be the successful nutritionist, who knew how to multiply her consultation, the one that everyone looks for, the one that everyone loves, but above all, the one who helped change the lives of her patients in an effective way (not temporary) and who also helped solve the serious problem that Mexico has at the moment and which continues to increase: The high rates of overweight, obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular diseases that cause thousands of deaths each year and millions of pesos in treatments. *The secret to increasing your consultation is to love your patient, to truly want to help him, caring about him, making him feel that he is important to you because if he sees that you care, he will feel more motivated and encouraged to lose weight, to cure his illnesses because you will have helped him see life from another perspective. Maybe they don’t teach this in a university, but this humane treatment is effective in helping your patient. He doesn’t need just any doctor, he needs a friend, someone who understands what he is going through and someone who will help him heal. Trust is everything. If you have your patient’s trust, you will have their loyalty and permanence. *Empathy with your patients is what will make the difference between you and other doctors. You must try to understand them, understand their problems, know their habits, establish a closer relationship because the success of your consultation will be determined by the results that your patients achieve. And the successful results will be to lose weight and lead a healthy life with an appropriate eating plan and to achieve that you need your patient to change their habits, which you will achieve more easily if you manage to establish an empathetic relationship with them. Just imagine a patient in a hospital. A doctor arrives at his room to apply medication, but another also arrives and approaches him and talks to him. Tell him things, ask him what he ate, if he liked the food, if he needs anything… Which doctor do you think the patient will choose? And you, do you help your patients?
