ALERT! Obesity can make you unemployed
We found a similarity in some patients' records that encouraged us to do research on obesity.
Last week I received a large number of new patients with obesity problems. Nothing out of this world. However, I found a similarity in the files of some of them that encouraged me to do some research that surprised me. It turns out that several of them were unemployed and confided in me that they had just lost their jobs. When the third patient arrived with the same work condition, I thought that this couldn’t be a coincidence and I would have to investigate the reasons. I met up with some old friends who run big companies. I decided to ask them how they treat an obese worker. Why and if that is a decision factor to use them or not. I was speechless when the majority agreed to deny them the opportunity! All of their arguments were based on the amount of losses that obesity generates for their companies. When I heard that, I asked them to justify their position. At that moment, one of them took out his phone and showed me unquestionable data. Well, the Mexican Institute of Competitiveness estimated that obesity generates annual losses worth 85 billion pesos! I couldn’t believe it. I was even more surprised when I discovered that, according to the Mexican Health Foundation, losses due to diabetes reach an average of 223 billion pesos annually! I thought about all the patients who don’t come to the consultation and I told myself, the worst thing is that both can be prevented! Among so much high-impact information, I decided to return home to rest. Getting ready to start the week and working hard in the office. However, the astonishment extended until this morning, when two of those three patients missed their appointments. No Let the loss of your follow-up appointments become a bigger loss!
